Opening a wireless or telecom retail franchise in South Florida

Wireless and telecom stores depend on visibility and foot traffic in a busy center, with a storefront and layout that fit the brand's prototype.

What a wireless and telecom retail concept needs from a space

  • Visibility and traffic in a busy center, with neighbors that bring shoppers past the door.
  • The brand's size range and layout, compared with the space.
  • A storefront and glazing that suit the brand's look and keep stock secure.
  • Power and data for displays, point-of-sale and security systems.
  • Parking close to the entrance, since many visits are quick.
  • Signage rights on the building and on any shared sign.

A planning checklist, not a rule. Your brand's FDD and site criteria come first.

Questions to ask the landlord or listing agent

  • Does the center have exclusives that affect a wireless or electronics use?
  • Who pays for storefront changes and signage?
  • What are the CAM, tax and insurance estimates per square foot?
  • What condition will the space be delivered in, and is there a tenant improvement allowance?

Permits and code

For a nonresidential building under 25,000 SF, the local government must approve or deny within 60 business days of a complete and sufficient application. If it misses the deadline, the permit fee is reduced 10% for each business day late. The 9th Edition (2026) Florida Building Code takes effect on Dec 31, 2026, so ask your building department which edition applies to your application.
